Paper 800/2 (Speaking) is often regarded as the most intimidating component of the MUET examination. Administered in groups of four candidates (Candidates A, B, C, and D) before two examiners, this 30-minute exam evaluates real-time conversational fluency, communicative agility, and academic discussion skills.

To achieve a high score, candidates must master both Part 1 (Individual Presentation) and Part 2 (Group Discussion).

1. Part 1: Individual Presentation (2 Minutes Prep, 2 Minutes Speech)

The 2-Minute Presentation Structure - Greeting & Introduction (15s): "A very pleasant morning to the examiners and fellow candidates. Today, I will be speaking on [Assigned Prompt], which is a vital method to [Theme Goal]." - Main Point 1 (35s): "First and foremost, [Point 1]. This is because [Reason]. For instance, [Example]." - Main Point 2 (35s): "Secondly, [Point 2]. The primary advantage here is [Reason]. As an illustration, [Example]." - Main Point 3 / Summary (25s): "Finally, [Point 3]. 2. Part 2: Group Discussion (3 Minutes Prep, 8–12 Minutes Discussion)

In Part 2, all four candidates receive a shared stimulus with 5 interconnected points and a central focus question (e.g., "Which is the most effective way to promote healthy lifestyles among youth?").

Examiners evaluate candidates across three areas: Task Fulfillment, Language Use, and Communicative Ability.

Collaborative Discussion Phrases - Opening the Discussion: "Good morning everyone. Today we are gathered to discuss which method is the most effective in promoting healthy lifestyles. Candidate A, would you like to share your thoughts first?" - Agreeing and Expanding: "I wholeheartedly agree with Candidate B. Building upon that, we also need to recognize that..." - Polite Disagreement: "That is an interesting viewpoint, Candidate C. However, looking at the practical costs for rural schools, I wonder if..." - Bringing in a Quieter Peer: "Candidate D has not had an opportunity to share yet. Candidate D, what is your perspective on this point?" - Working Toward Consensus: "Looking at the time remaining, we should work toward our conclusion. While sports participation offers clear physical benefits, balanced nutrition seems to form the foundation of all healthy habits. Does everyone agree?"

Monologuing in Part 2: Speaking for more than 45 seconds continuously without yielding the floor costs points in Communicative Ability. Group discussion is a dialogue, not a series of speeches.
Reading Word-for-Word from Notes: Looking down at your paper breaks eye contact and natural intonation. Use bullet points rather than complete sentences.
Silence or Passive Agreement: Simply nodding or murmuring "Yes, I agree" without adding substantiation receives minimal marks. Always provide a reason: "I agree, because..."
